Ecuador
Ecuador belongs to the Conmebol and they managed to end up third in one of the hardest and longest qualifying rounds. Only Brazil and Argentina were better than the Ecuador squad.
One of their biggest achievements, on the road to Germany, was beating the two South American heavy weights Argentina and Brazil by 2-0 and 1-0 in Quito and then managing 0-0 away draws against the same two titans.
This was an important goal for Ecuador because it meant the possibility of going to their second straight World Cup. The scorer was Edison Mendez.
